This is a thread to discuss training for zombie killing*, not to discuss the means of training factions in the terror war. And certainly not a thread for conspiracy theories that are likely to start Flame Wars. Cheesus Fraser, stop trolling for Hell's sake. Go create a thread on the OT to tell us all about how your Cristals told you Bush-Boy is in cohorts with Reptons and the Zionists to eat all the children of the Middle East or something, but leave this forum alone if you have nothing to contribute. *Specimens! Specimens! I know already, don't be pedantic! Its a conspiracy not a theorie, No matter how dimsy the evidence is it makes it more posisble and theres more then a little evidence that can back that up, So before you try to flame me, Get you're facts straight sunny boy.

Fraser, this isn't the place.
And I agree with you Uwasa, we need a friendlier way for people who don't understand things. But a compass wouldn't work so well, we need some thing better, I dunno WHAT. But a compass would just confuse people more in a small area. I have nothing against people who don't know how things work and can't figure it out for them selves, but we need a way that won't be in the way and annoying for veterans, but still extremely helpful and obvious for new players.

Alright, if not a compass always pointing to the trader, how about something like this?
A map.
Bring it up with 'o' or something, like in Onslaught. It would show the basic layout of the map (maybe make options for multi-level maps) and it would put a large marker over where you are and where the trader is. Maybe a small text message in the message box that would tell you "Hey, if you don't know this map, press 'O', trust me, it's really nifty" or something of the sort.

I like that idea. You could even make the map look rather shabby, maybe even with some blood marks on it and stuff. It would blend in nicely, methinks.

I don't like the idea. Sounds like work.

Aye, but the outcome would be great. And no, I can´t do it, I´m bad at drawing, photoshop and art in general. I´m only good at charming female art teachers into giving me a C+ regardless of my work.
And that doesn´t help us much here, does it?

Maps would be a pain to code and make. The only equivalent in UT are the Onslaught maps, and they do not take into account elevation... And since many of the KF maps have several floors...

Just have a set of a couple of maps. Say for instance London. The first map would show the outdoor layout, and the second one would be the inside of the PD and the underground. Even just having the map show up in the lobby and the menu you see when you press escape, no constant player location updates, just a couple of static images. No fancy 3d stuff. Just a total of 1-3 textures in a browser window. Most of the maps in killing floor have a total of 2 levels, and most of them don't have overlapping floors. The only official map with a multitude of overlapping floors is offices, but you could just have a large enough image to split up the image into 4 different quadrants with each level.
Which would be harder to code, an active compass with a constant direction to the trader, so it would probably have to be 3d, or an extra menu window or bit of space in the lobby with a couple of textures? And also, which would break the suspension of disbelief more? So long as multiple levels are split up, it wouldn't necessarily have to record elevation.

Why 3D and a compass? Why not just a plain 2D map, .jpeg or whatever UT uses, with (for now), like Dastard said, no player location updates or anything ? I mean, not like I wouldn´t like a 3D onslaught style map with updated locations and a trader tracker, I would appreciate it if someone did it. I just think it´s more work then there needs to be. Just a red X where the trader is at and maybe some blue circles around common defending locations like the church and the police station at London. Multiple levels could simple be indicated by, I don´t know, red or green dots. The first for entrance to a higher level (stairs), the latter for entrance to a lower level (stairs again). Maybe even point elevators out with an extra symbol. And then either a two-part map with 1st and 2nd level on one and 3rd and maybe even 4th on the second one.
I think I´ll just fool around with Photoshop once I get my hand again on MY own disc, whereever it is right now. And maybe then I´ll post some results instead of just talking and then, if the map has any priority at all, considering faust would be the one to actually embed all of this into KF, it might even show up.
Blub.

Don't forget, we need some thing that will be implentable with ease for custom maps. Since the orginal maps are pretty well done and easy to find a trader, maybe Manor is the hardest if you really don't understand anything. But custom maps are what really need these.

Why? We need a training map, badly. Don't cancel it. CONTINUE Anyone who doesn't want the training doesn't have to hit the training button, so if it's there, it isn't a big deal, but if it's not there, those who want it, don't have it. So yeah.
