Very few games have actually scared me. Doom 3, which everyone said was among the scariest games they had ever played, was more about cheap thrills than an actual sense of fear; they'd make a noise so you'd look over and spawn an enemy behind you. In recent memory, Vampire the Masquerade:Bloodlines had some creepy moments(crackhouse zombies were equally terrifying and hilarious), and the castle from resident evil 4 was pure terror(cultists shambling toward me speaking spanish and weilding morning stars is apparently a phobia of mine). Lets see...silent hill didn't scare me because I was too pissed off about the fact that my character turned with such speed that I could only assume he was wading chest-deep in a mixture of invisible molassass and invisibile glue; neither did the early resident evils, same reason. And lets not forget a certain part of quake 4; I'm not going to ruin it for anybody who hasn't played it but that game certainly has its moments...not necessarily the scariest game ever but it was pretty cool.
Oh, and did any of you play lands of lore 3? That game was terrible and awesome at the same time; nowadays the "unique" take on looking up and down gives me motioin sickness. Anyway, I played through it when it first came out, and the "hell" level is, to this day, the scariest level in any game I've ever played. Then again, I was around eleven to thirteen if I recall correctly, so that might have been part of it.
From what I'm hearing SS2 should be scarrier than all those games put together. Plus, you can be a psyonicist, so that's always a plus(advent rising fan here).
Edit: Added spaces to make it easier to read.

Whelp, None of those links worked so I've been looking over my CD again(system shock 2). There were only a few minor scratches; nothing noteworthy that could possibly stop it from working. I noticed its windows 95/98 while I run XP, but that doesn't prevent it from playing. It makes a weird noise(kind of a humming)sometimes while spinning in the drive, which seems to come and go. The worst part is that it always stops when trying to copy the file snd.crf, so I can't install it. Don't suppose any of ya have any idea what I could do to fix it? Edit: upon further inspection the CD appears to be a bit lopsided, so that might also be the cause of it.

I play super smash bros. melee on GC basicaly every weekday for a minimum of 45 mins (for like tha past 2 years), because we have a GC in our school common room.
I also play UT2004 a lot, BF2 a fair bit, F-Zero GX, Resident evil 4 (I dissagree with macondead about the scariest part, for me it's the regenerators), Halo 2 sometimes and metroid prime 1+2.

Wow, didn't realize all the SS2 fans on the board... that game is amazing beyond words. Definately one of the most terrifying experiences of my life... just being in a dark room, hiding beside a corpse, and hearing some shambling THING outside whisper "your song is not ours..." gives me goosebumps.
On another note I killed a psychic monkey after a long fight once and found a bag of potato chips on it, to which I turned to my friend and noted "That monkey was all that, and a bag of chips". Only humor in the game though... yeesh.
It's fun to cheat, give yourself max speed and strength and a laser sword and try to beat the game with only that.

GW? Maybe it's like, a slurred version of Ghost Recon...Instead it's Gwost Wecon... =P Some good games, America's Army (FREE TO DOWNLOAD AND PLAY! http://www.americasarmy.com) , BF2 (eh, it's okay...Lag gets annoying easily), Tetris (oh'yeah!), and like, Yahoo! Pool (games.yahoo.com) Oh, and Sims 2.
