Nice Mod, some suggestions if possible

Hello Alex,

Excellent Improvement over the original, very well done. I happen to stop by and see that the mod was released. So I am enjoying it now. lol BEEN pretty busy as of late with other mdo projects.

Some suggestions for what they are worth if possible.

It would be nice if there could be some Iron sights on the Pistol, I know of no one in Law enforcement or the Miltary that would shoot a pistol from the Hip, you always aim with those sidearms as they are closeup and useless without aiming. Small complaint, but something that bothered me since the winchester could do it. I found myself constantly trying to aim when there was no option. ;-)

The next suggestion is mainly for the Server Rules and addition choices.

1. Please add more options for the server Host, example would be the option to add Bots, for those of us that play alone. lol

2. Also the additon of What weapon the player starts with.
3. Option to set the Purchase lobby time
4. Option to Adjust how many enemy in the game etc.

I know you setup an auto system for some of these, but I think the Server Host should be able to edit the game to allow more flexabilty and replay value in not know what the host set. Also for those that want to test the map without Stenches would be nice, as of now the server has no choice on how many enemy show up in the game. Infact I was surprised over the lack of options for the server.

I think you can pretty much figure what would be good addition to the server options in regards to the above stated.

Now I would like to say I like the new Zombies and changes, they look nice and welding is a great addtion. I would suggest some sort of Readme for NEW players one how to play your mod and what features are in the mod. Right now its kinda a guess at what was added thing.

Also the option to add Hud or not would be nice, again you and many others here on the forums are Hardcore UT04 players. Many of us are not, and dont even play UT04 except for your Mod (like myself).

Thats about it, so far everything is good, its a little hard as I have no idea where lockers are to try out new weapons etc. Adding bots work, but it would be nice to setup in the server to add them automatically when there isnt enough players without have more enemy arrive because of the Bots. lol

Overall Great mod, looks like alot of fun, Just really hard for New players and those who havent played your previous mod alot or UT04. And we all know the whole Idea is to get more players to play this mod, while still appeasing the oldtime fans. I think servers options can do both as they are optional.

Glad to see you back Lt, and I'm happy you're enjoying the new KF.

I agree that server options are a good thing, but adding too many options can be dicey...it gives players the ability to customize their experience, but it also gives players the ability to fuck themselves over and break the game.

That may sounds cynical, but the number of responsible hosts who are experienced and know just how to tweak what, is miniscule next to the number of WHAT DOES THIS BUTTON DO players who may end up ruining the server for everyone by setting ridiculous server options

I tried to streamline most everything into the "Difficulty" control, so that you can adjust your experience with one simple option.

The reason the pistols dont have ironsights is because they aren't intended to be used in that manner. The knife / 9mm are fallback weapons more than anything else. The only reason the Winchester got the option to I.S is because it was a designated sniping weapon, and that feature really fit with its behaviour. Remember that KF is not overly concerned with realism



Regarding the Bots and starting weapons, i'm gonna agree with you that it would be alot of fun. The only hickup is that again - it could be abused (Lining up 5 bots to start wave one with LAWs) but I think that it's a useful enough feature for offline play, and it would let you set up fun little battle scenarios. Consider it a possibility.

Thanks basically I was hoping to start with the SA-80 ;-) Maybe just make starting weapons go so far like excluding certain weapons like LAW's lol

BTW I PMed you a question regarding a problem I cam getting with something. Personally I would love to play this game online but my ping is too high because of SAT, so I am stuck by myself and those bots. lol

Also if you could add a feature to allow more bots, but then that may not be possible and IF the bots are given better start weapons than the pistol it could be better, I know in KF1 I liked starting with the Bullpulp.

Well, bots *do* buy weapons, they just are tricky to code since the base code is based off of UT2k4 which has a totally different game play feel that bots are set to use. For instance, bots don't like to do tactical retreats. Bots starting with good weapons is a bad idea, since you can exploit it by leading them to zeds, having them get killed, and picking up their weapon for your own. Maybe if they had much better aim than normal, since bots are overall designed to be relatively inaccurate in UT2k4, only because it's an MP game, and it would be far too hard for most casual players if bots had great aim; also, UT2k4 has more projectile weapons than hitscan, and hitscan dominates if you have perfect aim as opposed to proj weaps.

The game should never be totally fully customiseable insofar as difficulty goes, it cheapens the experience and people would always get used to how *they* like to play it as opposed to how it's supposed to be played, and everybody gets whiney if a server isn't set up *just* right. This can especially hurt a relatively small mod such as killing floor, since it can make people just stop wanting to play because the only 3-6 servers up aren't set up like they want.

Dastard, I'm impressed, that's the best explaination for game difficulty I've heard in a long time.

Kinda like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden... sure, they may seem horrible and broken at first, but the ass-kicking is more of a gesture of love... they want you to play well and know what you're doing.

I do want to point out that I am by no means perfect and that anything I say about code is entirely based off of what limited code knowledge I have, so don't quote me as infallible truth.

Advanced difficulty settings *can* work if the game is popular enough, but it divides the community too much if it's below a certain thresh hold of popularity. It's what happened to the Frag Ops mod; they released a new gametype, it split the community in twain because it was essentially then two mods in one, and people just stopped playing.

Anyways, if you're intelligent enough to do so, you can change most things via ini configuration and server startline commands, and are really intelligent enough you can just make a mutator making slight gameplay changes you might want and just put it up on a redirect server. I doubt that anyone who is truly competent is really complaining. The only real issue at hand is the bot thing, and that's mostly the game replication info at fault, since epic made it (reasonably, if you view it in the right light, so) difficult for clients to add things to the game if they control no pawns, and until you spawn, you control no pawns.

one suggestion could be slower reloading speed, that way you force people to co-op better when taking turns reloading / firing and thus increasing difficulty right? OR you just make the med-syringe work once a wave
Now that i think about it, there is a lot of small things that could increasing difficutly, but i havent even tried "Suicidal" difficulty yet so i really dont know

Armakuni, you are mad... lol... the med syringe doesn't work often enough right now, and the reload speeds are already atrocious. Even with six people you need every advantage you have right now to survive... and we've never done so... hell, BioticsLab was the farthest we made it, and we still died like dairy cows storming Normandy. If the med syringe healed more, or the monsters hurt less, I'd be more inclined to agree... but a Stalker can kill you in 2-4 hits... and that's a low tier opponent. You need that health.

I just keep thinking that the game is pretty damn near impossible as it is... on Normal... I just think if there are any major changes or balances... it shouldn't be FOR the creatures at the moment.

I finished all waves.. like.. a week ago. We were 4 people, playing on Biotics lab. It was awesome.. And I noticed how many waves there are! Like 15 of them... I expected it to end at the 10th o.O In the latest waves.. omg.. so many fleshpounds.. Ran out of ammo all the time! >.< I had a winch and a Hunting shotty.... I think it was on normal difficulty... Anyway, it was great!
