I don't think that running out of clips is nearly as much of a problem in 2.0. The starting melee weapon is loads better than in 1.0.
Blubber, a flamethrower is a bad weapon for a zombie game. Zeds don't feel pain. If you want a nice AOE weapon, try the LAW.
Maybe, since the knife is now the default melee, there could be a hand scythe as a step up between the knife and the bat? Decent damage, but you have to be really close. If not a hand scythe, maybe one of those hand sledge hammers?

Cause the only thing better than a zombie running after you is a flaming zombie running after you . If you've ever cooked a hot dog on an open flame you know that it takes meat a long time to burn all the way through. A zombie, immune to pain, probably wouldn't mind being set on fire, and the fire wouldn't burn him badly enough to immobilize him for at least a few minutes, at which point he'd have eaten you. Anyway I figured when surrounded by zombies many players might panic, shooting more with less accuracy. Plus, the weapons dealer is only out between waves, so even a careful player could run out of ammo at an inconvenient time if he/she was stuck on the other side of the map. Honestly this will probably be a pretty rarely used feature, but it could mean the difference between life and death in dire circumstances. Of course its my idea, so I'm likely a bit biased. Edit: Good point Dastard, I forgot about the random drops. That does limit the use to those of us that tend to go a bit overboard on the ammo front in a tight spot. I'd still feel a little better knowing I could throw a clip to my ally or vice versa, but it might not be useful in enough situations to bother coding in.

There's also the fact that there are weapons lying around all willy nilly. If you're playing with enough people that you can't manage to get your hands on a ground score, then you should have no problem staying alive for the next wave.

I can understand why it would seem "cool" to have a flamer, but you've gotta think more with logic. Zeds are noticeably damp. Thus, they would have a hard time staying aflame. How about an ice axe for a melee weapon?

Handheld. Not full size ice axe. It'd be between knife and bat.

I'd think a penetrating weapon would be more effective than a blunt melee weapon.

Depends on weight/strength ratio. Since zeds are naturally decomposing, they fall apart easy, so it's not inconcievable that a blunt strike that is hard enough wouldn't do some damage. A piercing attack is mostly localized damage, so it wouldn't have as much of an effect. A slashing attack would be the least useful, unless your strength enables you to slash deep enough into the zed as to damage internal musculature, bone structure, and ligaments.

Blubber, have you even played this game? Jeebus, think before you type. The LAW is an RPG Launcher. Rocket propelled grenade launcher.
Gah, I gotta step away from the internet before my brain knocks itself out in self defense. T_T

How about some kind of shoving attack, like say a kick, that knocks the zeds back a bit, so you can escape if you get surrounded (or push the zeds of a ledge for fall damage).
PS: If you are looking for flaming zombies, I made a glitchy one and put it in the furnace in KF-Wasteyard. Just shoot off the door, and it should walk out. ;D

RPG launchers are specifically called, RPG-(number here), they're Russian and as far as I know, they aren't used by the British Armed forces. The LAW in game, as all LAWs that I'm aware of, shoot litterally, rockets.
