First off: Ask Long: I don't hand out compliments just for the sake of sucking up. I tend to point out any flaws I come across, because I want to help make a better product. That said, I fucking love the atmosphere. I started up the single player game, and the London level is literally one of the most gorgeous environments I've ever played in a game. None of the screenshots or trailers properly conveyed how great everything looks. I swear, I honestly had a nightmare once that looked just like it. Lots of great details like window blinds swaying in the wind and stuff getting knocked around when I bump into it. The rusty Pepsi machine was a nice touch. I'm really surprised that the UT2.5 engine can look this good. Figuring out where to go took me a little while, but it was no big deal. I just assumed that the stuff in front of the doorway was supposed to mean that I couldnt go in there. Likewise, I was a bit confused since I couldn't jump through the mostly broken window without clearing it out first. Again, no big deal, just thought I'd mention it. It looks like, for the SP game, you pretty much need to run past as many zombies as possible. There simply isn't enough ammo to fight your way through, and certainly no extra health. I'll have to play more to see how well this balances out.

Little hint : There is a balancing factor to the lack of ammo, melee weapons. There are always your fists and you can use other weapons you come across, time it right, and sometimes you won't even be hit.
And, OMG first level spoilers in post above!
But yes, I would say the atmosphere is better than almost any professional game out there, alex said he was inspired by how good Unreal (original) was, and it shows. Of course blowing stuff up, shooting it to bits, and hacking it to pieces always helps a game's awesomeness.

I'm amazed at the quality and detail of the maps. Singleplayer reminds me so much of the Aliens TC for Doom from way back. It's the same wondering around a deserted area, expecting something hideous around the next corner. I just really dig it when the first level is about exploration and letting yourself be saturated by the environment. Then the shit hits the fan.
That's just my first impression.

It's entirely possible to take down a single undead with your fists, but groups tend to muck that up a bit. After playing the SP game, and then loading up KF-WestLondon, I realized just how much the fog adds to the atmosphere. It's not just a little thing - it's almost like a completely different level. Very awesome. The MP is incredibly fun. The difficulty with 4 people is just about perfect. The Chainsaw is obviously the most powerful weapon in the game, and may need to be toned down just a tiny bit. It's fun, though, so that's what counts.

Your input is valuable to me. Nupraptor, if you'd like to join me on MSN, perhaps we can talk in person about some of the finer points of the game balance?

I just beat the singleplayer campaign. Wow. This can EASILY make it on store shelves. I'm not kidding. If Doom 3 can sell a million copies... And this completely crushes Doom 3. You guys really creeped me out sometimes with the blood stained dirty grimy gritty messed up settings. All the little details with the smoke and metal sheets flapping in the wind. And the zombies are especially creative. There is so much style here. It's THE zombie mod I've been waiting for since the first release of They Hunger. Expand into a 32 level campaign with multiple episodes, a deeper story, voice acting, and you got it made.
Killing Floor feels like a retail product minus the parts where the developers hold your hand all the way through. You're not gonna find any of those damn Hannah Barbara style doors and switches that plagues games. I know you will hear complaints from people not knowing what the hell to do next. Screw 'em. It's more fulfulling to find stuff on your own.
I can't tell you how refreshing it is to play a free mod that is this well done. After trudging through so much crap you dread trying the next one.
I'll give multiplayer a shot later.

Thanks man! Im totally glad you dig the balls out, (do it yourself!) attitude I was going for with the SP. It was uncertaint in my mind how people would react to being given nothing more than subtle hints as to what their next objective was, or how they would survive, but it would seem that some people do indeed enjoy having to think on their feet! I'll have a hotfix soon to balance out some of the problems with MP, so play before then, or wait for the fix.

I heard about this mod on beyondunreal just a few hours ago, downloaded it, played quite a bit of the single player/multiplayer... WOW.
As someone who's done a lot of tinkering with the unreal engine, this is just an amazing compilation of work... it's really great to see something like this get released, and the story of this mod's creation is very inspiring to someone like me. Just wanted to say thanks to all it's devs.

I've been working with the unreal engine since it's been there, and I have to say I'm truly impressed by the level. With that said, it was too dark for my tastes, and I have very, dark tastes. Everything looks very professional and it's fun to play. At this point it doesn't have much lasting appeal though. The main reason I'll go back to play it is to check out the environment. I wish I had known about this mod earlier and I would have joined the team if possible.

Well I WOULD have loved it if there was a flashlight, some spots are VERY dark in corners etc. I couldnt tell if there was a wall there or a door, obviously there wasnt door, but if there was I wouldnt know it. I never got past the cutscene, so I am going on the london map. Really nice map though,
Only needs sounds for Hitting objects like cars etc with Axe, and a flashlight would be nice of some sort. Doom3 had the same issue with No flashlight for weapons, I would be glad just for a flashlight when I want it. lol
Its really nice to see the level of detail in the game, especially being a modder myself how hard it is when you are basically by yourself making a mod. Its truly a labor of Love and I think this is really going to be a killer mod once it gets going. Good show!
Lt
P.S. If anyone knows how to avoid the Soldier Cutscene lock up let me know. lol Reloading the saved game doesnt work for me for some reason.
