Donations for new servers.

Hi guys,

Well I thought I would start a thread about discussing the idea of implementing some sort of donation scheme so we can hire new dedicated servers for KF.

My first thoughts are that we have some sort of paypal style donation scheme like sites like Isohunt.com I guess that comes down to PiX if he wanted to implement it.

My second thought is that someone would have to be responsible for the accounting the money and using it to hire servers. This would probably have to be a staff member as there is trust there.

Finally we need to decide places to hire servers from if we were to run a donation scheme so we know how much it would be to hire and what our targets are.

Any opinions guys?

Wait for the impact of the new patch on the community. So far there are almost more servers than players. There might be no need for another (fully) dedicated KF-server.

why not just host perfectly free servers on spare PCs and the like?

Well it would be nice if we could have a couple of servers on 24 hours a day I thought.

This sounds like a good idea.
And even a Paypal set up for Alex is also a good idea. He's done lots for us ... comming out with the game and stuff (and lets not forget the new patch) ... so i don't mind like paying £10 for Alexs work!

Also ... for a UT04 server ... its like ... £40.
and who has'nt got £40 to hold spare and have a server?
I know i certainly don't!

The whole idea with peoples machines is'nt bad.
But you have to keep in mind the ping!

i'm sure last time when we had the AM server up, i was shopping around for prices and could get them pretty cheap, certainly not £40.

and anyone with a job or source of income could keep that up

hell i'll do it if someone will help me uploading everything and setting it up etc

i can get 15 months of a 6 player private server, but i'll just post the pw on here (its like, a third of the price of a public server) for €47.88, which is about 32 quid

if max can help set it up this weekend? i'll do it this weekend, depending how long it takes for the server itself to be setup

well saw on a forum that it generally takes about 10 days for them to set it up, so maybe i'll order it for next weekend. server will be in netherlands, so good ping for europe

Hurrah So are you just getting that out of your god graces or are you hoping that you will get cash back from donaters?

i've been thinking of getting one for a while, i can afford that easily, more so considering its a one off payment lasting 15 months

i might wait till 2.5 comes out so there isnt messing about with different versions of KF, but who knows how long that could be

i need help with everything to do with it really, not a big task then

since i've got a crap upload speed and don't know how to setup the server ini

might order it now since theres interest

and i wont be using hub, i prefer the good old map vote, so i can run more custom maps like hive ;D

ok, it was about 9 quid for 3 months so i've paid that, just to see what happens and test it out. will extend after that if necessary

reading the terms of service etc, as not to cock it all up, if you want the password, i'll PM it or ingame or something. not allowed to make it public yadda yadda
