Alright, since a mad number of people want to be a concept artist for the new project, I'm going to have to run some tests to see if we can find someone to fit the bill.
If you wish to participate, by all means do, this is only a test, and nothing is set in stone. If you do not wish to draw these, others can be submitted later, but as a concept artist you will be bringing the crazy shit that crawls out of my head (and others') to life.
So, for a test, draw me a picture of a DRF marine, with gas mask, bull-pup (from game) and holstered 9mm M9. Draw him standing with gun at rest from two point of views, one high angle looking down and the other from profile.
Second, draw me a grocery store with a display of rotting fruit in front of it, surrounded by a book store and a pet store that has been gutted by a fire. A body should be hanging from a window. Just one POV, from the street almost straight on, but looking just a bit more to the side.
Third, draw a pickup truck from two angles. Your choice on the angles.
Get them to me whenever, I'll set up my email address in my profile. Feel free to post here if you want as well.

I'm an Email n00b, so I don't know how to add Email attachments. So here are my first two:- IDK exactly what you wanted here, so it's just a basic picture of the guy holding his gun, from the angles I thought you meant. Full colour, what I'd call a finished image. The scan is higher resolution than real ilfe... . I also included a drawing of a gasmask I thought looked cool. For more gaskmasks, see www.gasmasks.netThis is just a quick sketch, I'll probably finish it later. You get the general idea though. I've not botherd with the pickup truck, but if it's necessary I'll do it.

Since I like challenges, I thought I'd give it a quick shot, too. Never doen real concept art before, it's fun, I might even do the other concept tests too. Now Doyora, you should keep in mind that with conceptart, you have to keep in mind the design for the modellers to make clear sense. I utterly failed at this, but at least I got proportions which are working more or less. Sry to be harsh, but If I where to chose the conceptartists for the SP, I would'nt take you. Because it is not about "getting a general idea". You have to have a more decent idea of what you want to transport with your image and right now you lack the skills that make this readable as conceptart. Not that I am that much better, don't get me wrong. EDIT: Oh, and something else: What we are lacking are TEXTURE Artists, more commonly known as skinners. If we have enough concept artists, I would be glad if some of them could help out in that department, too (Sort of 2D- Art Department)

Simply amazing, Faust - did you do that all by painting freehand in like Photoshop or something?
Edit: And Doyora, your scenery concept looks very similar to mines that it's shocking.

Yep photoshop all the way. I'm always experimenting with different approaches to build an image and so those 2 grew quite differently. Sorry about the faults, tho (especially in that perspective one). One should always let an image rest and finish it later. Now I see all sorts of flaws with it which could have been made better. Well it's just a speedpainting anyhow (about 1 hour for the right and 30 min for the left) and we are all here to learn something, at least that's the way I see it.
Doyora, I would definately like to see you as a mapper in the team, actually I already thought you volunteerd as a mapper for SP?

I've finished it all now, and I've taken into account what faust said. The street, now as a biro line drawing. I could colour it too if you want. (The picture is horribly skewed sorry, and the scanner cropped a bit off) I'm not sure how to take what you said. I thought the point of concept art like this is to give the general idea through visual means, so that (in this case) uwasawaya can analyse it and tell me what he thinks. From that point, I he were to say he liked it I would then refine the image taking into account his feedback, and make a more final image. This continues untill the design is final, at which point, if it were a model, I would make a detailed accurate line drawing to make the model from, with veiws from multiple perspectives. Since this I assume would become a map, I wouldn't expect the mapper to try and turn the isometic image there into a map. I would make something like this:- (This is much more indepth that ones I use for my own maps) With notes etc to help them see the idea more. And, for the finer details, I would make thumbnails like this to convey the idea better:- Although, if that's not the case, nevermind. I'm happy to do the maps either way, but I'd like to give this a try. Perhaps figures aren't my strongest point though. EDIT: That picture of yours is insane faust... I take it you used a tablet instead of a mouse? My photoshop painting skills are average at best. That looks like you used real paint.

That is much better.
I can't say what Uwasa has in mind with this, but I see it as a test of your concept art skills. To let him see how skilled you are in translating his ideas visually and the ammount of creativity you can can up with dring the transfer. The 3 pictures you posted now, although not perfectly crafted from an educational point of view, are indeed WELL done! I could imagine someone to put it into his maps. You may not be an illustrator, but you make your concepts from a mappers point of view which count much, too. Remember, we are not a professional enterprise here, if you were to make concepts with illustrative qualities someone'd have to pay you.

Uwasa, I'd reccomend allowing Doyora to draw more building fronts, I just got done making an okay model of the bookstore building front in his picture(As practice, of course). I'll post a pic of it if anyone wants to see..

Go right ahead Abyx. And Doyora, I agree with Faust, your soldier does need work as concept art, but it's not bad. Your scenery, however, is astounding... exactly what I asked for... heck, even my girlfriend was impressed with the perspective, and she's a tough one to win over. The interior mapping was supurb as well.
And Faust was right, I was specifically vague on this, but only asked for the things that mattered.
Faust... that pic is sick, by the way... lol.

Doyora's soldier is too...'chibby'. If anything. Here's the pic of the practice model I managed to create using Doyora's pic. Edit: Note: this is like, my second model ever made.
