This is intended to be a general thread to just discuss mapping stuff, like ideas, textures, help request etc.
Discuss!

And, to start it off, I got this nice photo of a building at night. I recon it would make an awesome subject of a mapping project. Any takers? I can get more if you need. EDIT: sorry about it being blurred... my camera sucks at night.

The front of that KF-Hospital I've been hearing about? It is a cool place, what is that building used for exactly?

Not really. They won't say much.
Although one of them is saying it was just a joke...and they are not going to go through with it <_<

I had planned for like one of those high class "top floor" restaurants. However it's glass mostly all over, something like that picture. But at the moment it's just in my mind.
Is there a way to extract a texture to a jpeg and then do whatever and from a jpeg to a texture again?

I think its something like "Right click texture, export?" or something. But its in a format which most common free image editors dont handle. 3ds Max does though.

Find the texture in the texture browser, right click it, hit "Export to File" then use some thing like Photoshop to open the .dds, and save it as a .jpeg.

Or just printscreen the texture open on the texture browser at 100%, and go from there.

Seeing as the majority of maps are often slated for not being very good, I decided to put up some very good tutorials I found. No, they aren't HOW 2 UED 4 N00BZ!!1, they explain some interesting and helpful gameplay concepts: help.hourences.com/bookgameplay.htmand the best tutorial Ive seen on how to correctly light a scene: help.hourences.com/booklighting.htmI really reccomend looking @ these, since if you take on board what is said Im sure we'll have less people complaining maps look unfinished *looks at jacksonL*
