I'd like to host a dedicated server whenever I can, rather when i'm not doing anything. problem is.. I've tried anything and everything and i'm not able to get one up. Well i can, but noone can join. Even with dmz on its a no go which is utterly retarded, because every other game/app I've ever played/used, I can host.
I have my ports open, i even tried fiddling with my modem-router thing and it still don't work.(http://www2.windstream.net/downloads/links/SpeedStream211.pdf)
i've tried ye old KF-wiki, unreal admin site, and some other i cant remember.
UPDATE: ucc cant connect to master server now even with dmz.. this has never happened before. Anyone else have have this problem?

Try hosting w/o a router just to see if that's causing the problem.

I can't host dedicated either, but I can host a listen server. I believe the dedicated server is just messed up for KillingFloor, like a few other options. You'd have to PM one of the guys who has a dedicated server up.

Back in KF 2.0 I was able to host a dedicated server, even though I´m behind a router. I don´t know whether they´ve changed dedicated server related stuff on the recent releases, but I don´t think so ? Anyway, I´ve had dmz on, too and it worked just fine

Nothing' s been changed. KF doesnt replace ucc. There is nothing wrong w/ the dedi server.

I cant remove my modem cause my modem is my router. Its not bad really nifty actually. I might have figured out how to solve it, but i need someone to test connecting to my server. Anyone want to volunteer? ;D Also found this nifty thread www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234947, which is the problem i'm having. So long as my router-modem-thingamabob behaves like i want it to. I will have a server

Well, even though I read through 3/4 of that post I didn´t walk away with much.
But I can help you test your server. Drop me a pm and we´ll see about the time.

To clear things up its a master server side coding problem. they did not take into account the fact that there are NATs(network address translation) that change port numbers for security reason and/or for availability of ports. What this does is that it makes the master server think you're on port(60000 and up, its what router usually use) while you're on 7777 or whatever you're hosting on. I've seen this on many servers which you cannto connect to because they havent forwarded their ports, or they have and their port # is wrong(i.e. 6xxxx), or its something twidlydiddly else. So usually, if i'm right and if you have hosted it right, you should be able to any server as long as you do OPEN IP> delete port # ( ip:port ; so as an example delete ':60298') or replace it with the right one, and you should be able to connect.
btw check PM

check ini for BehindNAT=True That too. Mine has always been that way(True) and it still doesn't get the right port #. The ini is the first thing i check if i want to change anything. I think someone connected and played a round. but i still havent had probably more than 1 person connect. That or they disconnect right away

Whenever I host, you have to join by IP, otherwise it doesn't work. But I can get a bunch of people if they join by IP.

actually, I have managed to join using the server browser on a few occasions.

Good point, some people can join some times, others they have to use the IP. It's odd. Either way, server works usually, just the UT2004 Browser has some issues I guess is the way to put it.

And one more of my deductions from a test. My Modem/router supports NAT, NAPT, and NAT-NAPT Concurrent.
Network Adderss Translation Network Address Port Translation
Apparently i cant get the last one to work. I don't know how.
I switched my setting from NAPT to NAT and everything worked fine. I didn't even have to do DMZ.
NAPT does the port translation for externally bound connections to port #s of 60000+
I hope this helps other peeps looking forward to hosting a Killing Floor server and in the future.
