after the ut3 demo and 3 hours of the full thing my opinion is quite short:

IT SUCKS

you shoot stuff, you get shot and shoot again. not like 2k4 was any different but it was fresh with onslaught and stuff.
it really pisses me off as im a gameplay fanboy, not only didnt they add stuff (hoverboard and death faking are the weirdest and most useless additions ever imo) but they even removed the assault mode and most of the settings so that messing with the ini is a must now.
the graphics are neat but sadly i dont enjoy visuals, they just dont have to get in the way of gameplay imo
all at all this thing fully qualifies as an awesome engine demonstration and mod base(neat and shiny unrealed 4) but there is no way im gonna play anything but custom content for this game

That was what I was afraid of, I have a feeling this is UT2003 all over again. Lets see if history repeats itself in that within the next 18 months an upgraded version (UT2K4) comes out with Assault and other removed modes back.

Played a little bit more, and I've finally come to a conclusion about this game.

Lets get sidetracked here. I've been a UT fan since classic UT, back when you'd pick your team in single player mode, and you'd go through the various maps with members of that team. That way, you looked like a real sports team, instead of a hobbled-together bag o' shit like in the later games. Still my favourite feature. When I picked up 2k3, it was a big improvement. New weapons, some vehicle support(though hidden), sharper graphics, and it just <played> a lot better, though I was irritated that assault hadn't made the conversion. 2k4...I bought this when it was 20 bucks, and if I had paid 50 I think I would have been ripped off. Couple new guns which did the same thing as older guns, but worse, and a few new gametypes. Granted those were the best gametypes ever, but It was honestly just an expansion set.

Flash forward to now. We've got snazzier graphics, sure, but UT3 is an expansion which has <removed features> from 2k4. Sure there are a couple gimmicks here and there, but to me the UT series has always been assault, bombing run, and the occasional game of onslaught. So no, I do not enjoy UT3, and in fact I've returned the damned thing.

Pretty soon, UT is going to become the new madden.

Well, it somehow sounds like they just left stuff out on purpose. Maybe they didn´t have enough time from the very beginning (the menu doesn´t look like it´s finished either). Throwing whole gamemodes in at a later date worked with UT2k3 and they even got to sell it as a new game (UT2k4), so why not do it again?

By now they should know how popular a gamemode Assault is. Onslaught and Invasion are nice, but Assault is the real gem in the box of gamemodes.

I personally think its a mixture between time limit and consolitis. UT3 was developed alongside both the PS3 and Xbox360 versions (yes 360 is getting it, its most likely already done, just Sony being bastards and gaining exclusivity until early 08).

From Day one EPIC said that wanted to go back to the style of UT99, they attempted this with UT2K4 and nearly got there (dont deny it, it was a good game). I also think the development of the UE3 effected this.

If EPIC had given console development to another third party then UT3 could have ended up being the most feature based version yet.

At the end of the Day EPIC do tend to listen to their fans, they did last time with UT2K3 and released UT2K4 with a voucher to get some money off if you already bought 2K3. If Fans hate this version so much, then EPIC may do the same again, only time can tell.

The good news is EPIC will support this game for many years, expect mulitple patch releases, new content etc.

2.) VERY BAD German translation
3.) You've to log in (hard to find a unique name ... )

It's my only reason to buy Windows Vista (Direct X10)

UT3 is a huuuuge disappointment for me, I used to play UT99 and UT2K4 for hours and hours, on invasion alone in UT2k4's case.

I came in expecting a huge improvement, great maps and imaginative characters and weapons(Prior UTs), now everything is a tri or quad shaped gun, the only things even resembling the whole dark atmosphere and not some Japanese gundam show; are the bio gun and the sniper rifle. To be honest, who uses the bio gun?

The maps all seem the same, not that they're bad maps, but there isn't much variation. Space, Machinery complex, or Japan. And then there's the onslaught levels.

Did anyone else notice how centered on Japanese architecture UT3 is? Not that, that's bad, it's just kind of strange as it's a giant new turn.
