Haven't been around in a few days, simply because my computer decided to throw in the towel.
Not sure how long it will take until I have this sorted but I thought I'd at least I'd let you know -- Not least the people I have made different arrangements with.

Back. With a brand new one. But I still haven't managed to access my old HD. Anyone who's good on hardware? Is it possible to just connect the old IDE HD to my new computer and transfer files that way?

Is it possible to just connect the old IDE HD to my new computer and transfer files that way? As long as your computer takes IDE, then yeh. There is a device out there that allows you to transfer files between 2 hard drives, but it's kinda expensive.

There are IDE-to-SATA-adapters, you know.

Yeah just get an IDE cable with two connectors on it and set one as slave and the other as master and turn on the computer. Your PC should do the rest of the work for you!!!
If not use the disk management on Windows to load it up.

By the way, you have to manually set it to master or slave using the actual pin of the harddrives. If you want help with some of that lemme know and I can help you out. Just give me an IM when you have some time for me to go over it with you.

I think I'll try it Blue's way. I did connect the old HD(IDE), as master. It didn't like it. Neither did it like slave. I think the new one (SATA), is recognized as slave, and that's why it doesn't work.
So, I should make the SATA master, and then via adapter make the IDE slave, right? Btw, the SATA disc has no pin.

well, whatever your operating system is on (for the new computer) should be set to master, then any additional hard drives (being your old one) should be set to slave.

Seems to be if un-sure, set it to slave. The old HD's(I got a few laying around...) are much more painful and hard to set. But the new ones are easy.

sata doesnt use master/slave. From my own experience it depends on which sata port it's in if you have more than 1 sata drive. It should say in the bios what it detects on boot as master/slave.
