- Go to your profile
- Click "Modify Profile"
- Add the URL of your chosen avatar, next to where it says "Avatar URL:".
There's a bunch of presets to choose from as well. Personally, i just nicked err.. borrowed mine from Gamespot

Below "Avatar URL", you can define the height and width of the image. Just type in 80 (Height) by 60 (Width) and it'll compress the image to that size. (b) Use external software to scale the image, like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro etc. My personal favourite is The Gimp 2.0, which is free and does a very good job of scaling without messing anything up.

Upload the image to somewhere like Photobucket, copy the URL it gives you for the image and paste it into the "Avatar URL:" section in your profile settings. Set the height to 80, and the width to 60 (to keep the ratio the same). Or, you could download The Gimp and scale it yourself, then upload it, copy+paste the URL etc.

One more word of advice though, if you're gonna upload that image in your sig (it never works when you link to your harddrive! ;D), you should really change it to a *.jpg image (rather than a *.bmp) because they take forever to load up. To do this, open up that image with MS Paint, go to "Save As" and change the File Type to .jpg, then save it.

E.g. ["IMG"]http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/mart_photohaha/Shot00095.jpg[/"IMG"] Without the 4 " marks though.
