I assume everyone visiting this forum has been gaming for quite some time; I was wondering what some of your favourite games of all time were. I'm sure we could go on all day about this, so lets keep it to top five please. Oh, and don't bother putting in UT anything, as that's a given:p. As for me(in no particular order):
Deus Ex. Open ended character development, involving sci-fi storyline, government conspiracies abound, and some truly memorable characters; this game had everything. I must have played through it a dozen times; sometimes I'd go melee, sometimes I'd use rifles, one time I even went through without killing anyone other than the bosses.
Kingdom Hearts. I'm hesitant to classify this as an RPG, as it had a fun/interesting combat system. It was a fun trip down memory lane, playing alongside some of my favourite characters from my favourite movies as a kid. Add to that a story worthy of the final fantasy name, and you've got a perfect game in my opinion. Plus, you got to fly, which is among my favorite things to do in any video game.
FEAR. As I learned in my gothic literature class, horror is seeing a terrifying thing, while terror is implying it without actually getting a good view of it. FEAR had an excellent combination of the two, making a truly psychologically horrifying experience, and is the only game where I've actually shot at shadows out of fear.
Dawn of War. Futuristic RTS with the best resource system I've ever seen. Instead of relocating your main base to the next gold mine you have to send your force around and capture strategic points along the map. On a small enough map the entire game is made up of hectic firefights with next to no time to rest.
Fallout: Tactics. I love tactical games like that, and it was in real time, unlike the first two, so I figured I'd give it a go. From the stupidity of the tribals to the overly friendly hippy manner of the ghouls, these were some of the funniest characters this side of the nuclear appocalypse. I can't wait to see what they do with fallout 3.

Deus Ex Baldurs Gate II : Shadows of Amn (close behind it BG1) Warcraft 3 I'd consider the above to be *legendary* in that they just defied all logic for what I could expect from a game. I have played and replayed each of those so many times I can hardly remember. I literally started a new character for EVERY class you could pick in BG2...and god knows how many times I made a new Deus Ex guy just to try the different combat / play styles and divergent plot choices. I still play Wc3 almost every night. I've been doing so for years. It just never gets boring even when you're getting your ass kicked. As long as you remember it's just a game, and play for fun then BattleNet is awesome Beyond those, here are some others I've really enjoyed. - F.E.A.R - TES:Oblivion - Max Payne 2 (The Story was just so powerful) - System Shock 2 - Godz ( YES ITS RETRO BUT IT WAS THE SHIT! ) www.chronicgames.net/info.asp?item=1107- The Original Lord of the Rings 2d Scrolling RPGs (they never completed the return of the king, but the first two were EXPANSIVE for their time! - Jill of the Jungle - First game I ever played.....and the reason I am the addict I am today. Thanks Jill, You fantastic bitch! Here's a screeny:

Ah, baldur's gate 2...I spent many an afternoon rushing my characters through that game; I think eventually the little popup that reminds you to register said I had run the program some four hundred times between my brother and myself. Strangely enough I only ever finished as a bard, and that became my favorite class in any rpg, replacing the paladin. I think neverwinter nights was pretty cool, too, but you only had yourself and a henchman or two in that one. Still, one of the expansions gave you the ability to become part dragon with wings and everything, so that was pretty cool.
And Jill of the Jungle...I haven't thought about that game for quite some time. Not the first game I've ever played(actually, it may very well have been; I don't really remember what the first game I played was. I think it was either duke nukem or wolfenstein), but pretty close. I remember one level where you turned into a firebird; that was the first time I had flown in a video game and it was a rush to say the least...all of a sudden you could go anywhere and do anything you want; the freedom was exhilarating.

In order: - Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
- Deus Ex (PC)
- Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (Xbox)
- Red Faction 2 & Timesplitters 2 (PS2)
- Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2)
I'm not a huge RPG fan, but FF7 has had more of my gaming hours that any other. Deus Ex was open-ended gaming at its best. Riddick is the only FPS game where stealth was more than just an after thought and the melee combat beats any other game. Red Faction and Timesplitters are there for being the best splitscreen-multiplayer games i've played. MGS2 was far too short (4 hours when skipping cutscenes), but the music was brilliant, the story was pretty good and there was tons of replay value. I must have finished it around 10 times and noticed something new every time! Other memorable games are: Alien Trilogy (PS1) - For the nostalgia value (First console game i've ever played) Tomb Raider 1 & 2 (PS1) - Great platformers. Future Cop L.A.P.D (PS1)- Cool mech/driving game, splitscreen mp was awesome. Tekken II (PS1) - The only fighting game i've ever bought

Quake 2 This game litterally helped me learn basic writing, reading and math skills when I was seven. It's from typing in too many cheat codes. ^^"' But other than that, it's just a really classic game for me, I loved it so much, I played it every day, I own every single one of the expansion packs, even went as far as to get the figures for display if I ever have the room. Alien Verses Predator Around this time I had been obsessed with the Predator movies, aswell as the Alien movies. I was around 8, and AVP was the best thing since sliced bread to me. Plus I tended to kick everyone's ass, it was satisfying. Plus, Co-op mode just brings too many great memories. Resident Evil. Every single one of them, I apsolutely LOVE the story of this series, I've read all 6 of the original books atleast four times each, except for 2 and 4, because I didn't like those too much. I've played nearly every single one of the games, and again, even went as far as to get a Raccoon Police Department S.T.A.R.S Patch to sew onto the sleeve of a T-shirt. Medal of Honor the original I waisted years of my young child life playing this game. All Doom games except for 3 Again...waisted years of my life playing this game...over....and over...and over...and over. I have(I THINK) all of the versions available for PS1, the original ones and they still work...except not on my PS2. Plus it's just DOOM, how can you go wrong? Other games would be: Rainbow Six(First One) Ghost Recon F.E.A.R(First game to actually scare the fucking shit out of me. I hate ghosts.) Half Life Halo Starcraft(Would've added, but no room) Jet Motto 1 and 2 BF42 And Alex88, thank you for reminding me. Future Cop L.A.P.D Wholy shit I loved that game. I wanna play it again, fuck. Of course there's more I'm sure, but I can't think of any.

Blubber, you should really consider actually paying attention to what you're posting before you actually post it. I'm amazed you haven't been banned yet, considering the inane comments and AOLer speak you've been throwing around constantly since you joined. Jesus, you're like a degraded quasi-literate clone of ev3rybody.

On top of what I said before, remember, its generally a bad sign when your posts sound like you're screaming them while riding a roller coaster, for example: As much as I dislike banning people, this is getting ridiculous. I defy any of you to find a single post of his that added anything whatsoever to the topic at hand, or, for that matter, didn't come off like he just popped in to saw "AWWW SNAP!" Anyway, that aside, I liked Heroes of might and magic 4. It got a little old eventually, but I spent two months working on the campaigns of one of the expansion sets. I wasn't very good, so it almost always ended up with me having to retreat to my main city and just fortify and hope I could survive against my opponents armies. That's one of the reasons I loved the game; defense IS much easier. So long as you've got enough fortifications, a good sense of tactics, and the right amount of ranged attackers you can stop an army drastically larger than yours.

I've been resisting posting here on the grounds that listing even a short version of my all-time greats list would spam this thread to hell - so I'll sum up with saying that I agree with most if not all of the suggestions so far (and the only ones I've not agreed with are ones I haven't played yet ). So instead of posting every game I can think of that is worthy of mention, and repeating all the names (System Shock 2 ) that everyone's heard of before, I'm going to mention one flawed classic that few people have heard of. Something unusual to hopefully inspire debate. I'm curious to see what other people will make of it. The game in question is Dreamweb. www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=342(To play it on a modern system you'll need a dos emulator. dosbox.sourceforge.net is my recommendation ) To get the obvious downsides out of the way, it is very ugly. It was never pretty even when it was new. Some of the ugly is deliberate, most is just crap art. It's also showing it's age by it's very genre - point-n-click adventure games just don't happen any more. Get past these barriers to immersion however, and you get to experience one of the most twisted and atmospheric settings ever crafted for a game world. I cannot think of another game that actually uses the limitations of a linear plot structure as a narrative device. We've all had moments in games where we want to do something that the game doesn't allow, but here those constraints are deliberately set up to heighten the atmosphere. You are at the mercy of an inescapable fate, and all you can do is play along to see where it leads.... and where it leads is to an ending that still makes me sit up and go WTF? even now. I'm interested to see what people think of it. PS - make sure you get the manual. Not only is it an interesting read that sets the scene nicely, it has essential facts tucked in there that you can't complete the game unless you know them.

No worries, brah; one of the reasons I thought up this thread was so I could hear your favourite games. I'd be interested to hear them. Its not spamming if its the subject of the thread after all . Also, how in the world did I manage to miss this? Somebody pinch me...I must be dreaming; when 3do went out of business I had given up hope of anyone ever making another HMM, let alone improve on it.

Hehe, maybe it wouldn't be spamming, but it would be huge to the point of being boring. If I want to count the number of computers and consoles I've owned on my fingers, I'd need to take my boots off. That's without counting all the times I've replaced my PC Picking a couple of games from each system is a vast list, and I can easily name more than a couple from most of them without even making an effort. Don't think I can name a game I'd play again for the Oric-1, but it did provide me with my baby steps in writing code, so it's got a key place in my gaming history despite it's lack of worthy games

Come on, man; everybody wants to hear them. At the very least give us a brief synopsis of the top 5. Otherwise I'm going to have to put you down for Daikatana or Swamp Buggy Racing, and I'm sure neither of us wants that.

Damn, I actually have a perverse desire to play Swamp Buggy Racing now, if only to witness the sheer horribleness for myself. It'll cheer me up to play a game where even the graphics are worse than I could achieve ;D
