We need more servers

Madmax, you are making way too much sense. Stop scaring me! However, you´re right, a decent schedule might help.


How about 7pm to 11pm GMT+1 (on average, give or take one hour) for a whole week, 26th November - 3rd December ? This way people will get to know the server and I can scout out the times when it´s actually being used.

The setup is customizable, just chat me up and I can change stuff. So far it´s:

Maps: KF-BioticsLab, KF-Tower, KF-Wasteyard, KF-WestLondon, KF-Swamp, KF-Thamesbridge, KF-Tao, KF-Offices, KF-Sewers, KF-Manor, KF-Train, KF-Grudge, KF-Sub_Aquarium, KF-TheHiveBeta1

Mutators: None. (However, I might do some sort of "wacky friday" thing using the admin mutator. Depends on whether or not I´m at home this friday. Hopefully I won´t scare people away with this.)

Note: I am using a redirect for map downloads. However I do not know whether or not the person that provides me with the redirect is still using the same adress. So, if the Person I am trying to X-link to might contact me, that would be great.

Either way he won´t be able to provide me with a redirect for all the maps mentioned above, so some lag might be involved. (Boooo, I know).

7 servers today. 3 within my ping range, 1 passworded, but all with 0 players. I saw the Hive, a different version from mine and by the time I downloaded it... server gone.

So 'look again,' you say. I'm missing something here -- sry, I'm a noob regarding servers except to look in 'server browser internet.' Sigh, back to the bots.

You might have hit the exact moment when the pings went ridiciously high and I had to shut down the server for a moment to turn downloads off.

A different version of hive, hm ? You sure you got the beta version, not the alpha one ?

same for me dled teh hive beta but i was still missing a hive_stuff package or sumthing

Thing is, you need the BETA map, but the texture files from the ALPHA archive.

And another thing: So far I´ve managed to get my server to come back online if it crashes, but I can´t get it to write a log file. He does not recognize the "log=xyz.log" command.

My batch file:

To be honest: I´ve got no idea, why I´m doing the "copy" command there, but I´m assuming it has got something to do with the crash details being saved in another file while the original log remains unchanged ?

And another thing: Where does this .log file have to be at? ..\KFMod20\system or ..\UT2k4\system ?

Would be great if someone could help me out there.

edit: After looking at Grex´ thread I now think I should change "log=" to "-log=". I will try this once the server population gets a bit lower.

I tend to go for the servers I know, like Geisterbahn, there are a couple of others 2. Other servers tend to be very hit and miss, some are even LAN servers that are listed but cant be played on (NAT router sending packets to EPIC master server list).

It is a pity that there arent more online servers. I think KF usually shines at LAN parties, amazing feeling playing with your buddies whilst using TeamSpeak. The last LAN I had problems with though, my INI file was messed up, this resulted in my waves being rock hard! FP's, Shreakers etc all morphed in like wave 1, we lasted like 5mins!

New dedicated server, Hedsteem: The Killing Floor.

The admin runs a VCTF ballistic / enhanced weapon server, an RPG invasion server, a jailbreak ballistic server, and a UT3 VCTF server. I convinced him to put up a KF server, I'm a co-admin on it as well.

Tonight he'll be editing the time between waves to go up to a minute, as well as putting up all the maps from the X map pack + the library map, until then it's just the standard maps.
