I was just thinking, perhaps this would promote your game a little bit futher!. Not sure with you guys, but when i try connecting to a server, it eiether has a N/A ping, or it just won't load.
But with six servers (all running on seperate ingame folders) (and on four harddrives) i don't think it will have such a problem, The servers wouldnt be exactly full all the time would they.
Il give it a try, if it doesnt work, il switch to option B. (pretty sure it will work, ive done hosting on this server before!) I ran, 3 copies of Halflife Servers, 6 Copies of Rainbow Six Raven Shield 2 Call Of Duty Servers, 2 Teamspeak Servers.
Mind you, this was on a 100/1000 connection to all the players ;D
Not too sure over the internet lol, but il give it a go!

That's what I was just wondering. Where is homeboy getting all the bandwidth for this endeavor...

An average server uploads 4kb of data to players every second. In this data it will show, an AI Path Range, and a Player Path Range... Also an average of 6kb/s goes back down the line to the server, this data includes use of weapons, your player path, and other various bits and bobs.
The ping usualy consists of 32bytes
Basicaly what im saying is, the server itself does not need a great amount of bandwidth, nor does my connection. The fact that KF only supports 6 players, and unlimited amount of zombies, it won't need a great amount of data.
Nope, i don't belive i have a OC3 connection, nor do i belive Bigjohn has!
Not many people would connect to the servers anyway! (all the servers would never be full, plus not all the servers would be used at the same time) Therefore, I recon this will work!

But that doesn't included the people joining the server. If too much is going on at once, people joining servers will have pretty bad ping. I mean, considering if I host a game on my DSL, people will lag if theres only two of us, but it depends on what is going on and where their located

The thing about KF is the servers take A LOT of CPU resources. Mine is running on dual 800 MHz Pentium 3s in a Linux environment and it still completely overloads the CPUs at times. I believe this is due to a bug that I have brought to Faust's attention, but bug or no bug I think if you have just two servers with only 3 players in each server it will overload even your Athlon 64.

Bullettraces, Karma Physics, General Body movement, Where you are looking, AI Pathing, General AI Movement, the list goes on, the server must calculate all of these for every single player, and refresh the whole time, hell, not the player, it must refresh the whole level. To be frank, KF doesn't just need a 100megabyte upload server to be good. Nor does it just need an uber computer. You need a bit of both. Crap Computer + Good Connection(Upload) = Well, the connection won't do very much if the computer can't give it the data fast enough...Slow... Good Computer + Crap Connection(upload) = The computer will be sending so much, that the connection can't keep up, and will have to slow down, thus making everything "laggy" Good Computer + Good Connection(upload) = Yay.
