Hi all
As some of you know I host quartely LAN parties, so far everything has been going great. However the last few LANs I have hosted have resulted in cheat blaming, there is one particular player who seems "too" good at CSS and DODS.
I personnally think he doesnt cheat, he is part of an online CLAN and he really does play well, but to please all the other LAN attendees I need to implement some sort of Anti-Cheat software.
What I need:
- Software loaded on Host not client - Need to work with listen servers - Compatible with most new games (CSS, DODS, COD4 etc) - Free! (Although I could "obtain" a key!)
Can any of you guys help me out here?
Thanks

Punkbuster or X-Ray. I usually hate anti-cheat software, and just deal with or boot anybody I don't like

... on a LAN ? You know, the problem with kicking somebody on a LAN is, that he will probably get up, walk towards you and punch you in the face ;D

I dont wanna have to kick the guy tho, he's a great player and a good contributor to the LAN. I've had words with him about it and he swears blind he aint cheating, I believe him too, he pretty much lives and breathes CSS.
I just need something that will keep the other guys happy.
X-Ray is this any good? Can it be used on a LAN? I thought all it did was post screenshots of play?

How do you suppose I do that then? Give up my gaming just to sit behind the guy and ensure he aint cheating?
It's not a LAN with dedicated staff, its a LAN with approx 8-12 of us, we all play and contribute to the setup in one way or another. Bigger LANS have dedicated staff, network guys, hardware guys, game guys, cheat aware guys etc.
I just need some software that I can run on the host that will block shit like wall hacks, aim bots etc.
Cheers

Maybe you need a telepath who can read peoples thoughts to ensure no cheating!
Am I getting a bit ahead of myself?

You're friends would punch you in the face? That's pretty bad grammar right there my friend. Are you honestly playing a real LAN? Where it's a "Local Area Network"? As in, everyone is basically hardlined into a router, or are you playing private online games? I'm a little confused.

Grim, yes its a true LAN. I host quartely LAN parties at the local Scout Hut. There are between 8-12 physical people in the same location hard wired into the switch.
Like I said above, we dont have dedicated LAN staff. I usually do most of the stuff, however my primary role is Networking, my Bro is the general fix it guy, whereas my other m8 was the game guy.
We all play at the sametime, so somebody cant watch over players. This is the reason why I need an application that can sit on the host machine. Kinda like VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) that is provided via Steam, you can VAC enable servers both Dedicated and Listen. I want something similar to this, something that can be enabled and left to squat any cheats.
For example, if the guys IS cheating, then he will get constantly kicked, and the cheats will be logged. That way I have evidence and can either bollock him and tell him he's no longer welcome, or punish him and give him a warning (hopefully if he is caught he will learn).
Cheers

You're friends would punch you in the face? That's pretty bad grammar right there my friend. Stop fixing my mistakes, they are my mistakes, don't take them away from me! Stop pointing them out, I want them! Mine.

No chance, all your mistakes are belong to us now ;D As for anti-cheat software: All I can think of is Punkbuster. However, I think nowadays it needs internet to work (sends pieces of information from every client to a master server to check them) and I believe your LAN was off-line ? So maybe you could sneak a webcam behind him instead and record everything or something .
