Killing Floor - Full Release v1.0
1. System Requirements
System Requirements
Operating System: Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP
Processor: Pentium® III or AMD Athlon 1.0 GHz processor or faster (1.5 GHz or faster processor recommended)
Memory: 128 MB RAM minimum (256 MB recommended)
Hard Disk Space: 5.5 GB free
Video: Any Windows-compatible video card(NVIDIA GeForce 2 or ATI Radeon with at least 64 megs of video memory recommended)
Sound: Windows®-compatible sound card. NVIDIA® nForce(tm) or other motherboards/soundcards containing the Dolby® Digital Interactive Content Encoder required for Dolby Digital audio
DirectX®: DirectX® version 8.1(included)or higher
Multiplayer: Internet (TCP/IP) and LAN (TCP/IP)play supported | 33.6K baud modem or broadband Internet connection recommended
NOTE: The above requirements are the UT2004 retail defaults. Killing Floor was developed on a 2.5 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor, with 1 GB DDR ram and a 128mb Radeon 9800 video card. KF should be fully scaleable for lower end systems, but this configuration or better is of course, optimal.
*The System requirements for the Killing Floor Single-Player Campaign are somewhat higher due to the use of complex atmospherics and shaders omitted from Multiplayer for the sake of latency.
2. Single-Player
Your objectives in the Killing Floor Single-Player Campaign will be relayed to you via a message on your HUD. If you miss a message, you may recall the message log by pressing the tilde key ' ~’
.Ammo conservation is important in Single-Player. Do not waste bullets on slow moving enemies you can simply circumvent.
.Your movement speed is relative to your current health. The more damage you sustain, the slower you will move. Searching for first aid kits is important as it keeps your speed up when you need to flee. This movement speed law pertains to multiplayer Survival mode as well.
.The Tac- 9mm Pistol is a weapon exclusive to Single-Player, and comes outfitted with an integrated tactical flashlight. To activate it, press the light toggle key (default ‘Q’) It has unlimited battery life, and may be necessary to see in certain dark areas. Remember that this light is ONLY available when the pistol is selected.
. Most interactive items such as switches, buttons, or valves can be activated simply by moving into close proximity of the item you wish to interact with. In some rare cases however, you will need to press the USE key (default ‘E’) to interact with an object in the world. You will be prompted on your HUD when you are in close enough proximity to such an item.
3. Multi-Player
The objective in multi-player is to survive as long as possible against continual "waves" of undead enemies. The number of enemies in a given wave is random, and the number you must defeat before the round ends will be displayed in the UPPER RIGHT corner of your HUD.
.Upon defeating the required number of foes, the wave will end, and shortly thereafter the next will begin, bringing more difficult foes.
.Dead players re-spawn with only a Bullpup Rifle and a Kitchen Knife regardless of what they had purchased before they were killed. Staying alive, therefore, is of great importance
.In order to fight off these increasingly challenging enemies, you and your fire-team must accrue "points" by killing zombies. The number of points you gain per kill depends on the difficulty of the enemy.
. Upon the successful completion of a "wave" surviving players are awarded an automatic 5 POINT BONUS.
. Players who die during a wave will be brought back to the life at the beginning of the next wave if their allies survive that wave; however they will not be awarded any points, and will lose any weapons they may have purchased before dying.
. Points accrued by players can be spent at Gun Lockers.
There are two of these objects in each Survival map, and they will automatically open when a player approaches them. When a Gun Locker is open, a player may use it by pressing the USE key (default ‘E’) in front of the open Gun Locker.
This will bring up a GUI menu from which weaponry can be bought, and sold. Weaponry in the menu is categorized based on its function POWER, RANGE, SPEED. So choose accordingly. Items such as First-Aid or Grenades can be purchased under the EQUIPMENT menu category of the Gun locker. To browse, or sell items you are already carrying, click on the MY INVENTORY category.
NOTE: you can carry a MAXIMUM of 20 pounds at any one time. I.e. Carrying a Shotgun and a L.A.W at once would not be a viable option.
When you have made your selections at a Gun Locker, you must click the COMPLETE button to finalize your decisions, or CANCEL button to negate any decisions you made during that menu session.
4. Arsenal
There is a variety of weaponry available in Killing Floor for defense against zombies. What follows is a short explanation of the function of each. This list is applicable to Multiplayer only, as Single-Play has a much narrower set of weapons and they respond slightly differently.
Kitchen Knife – Value: 5 Weight: 1
This is part of the default loadout in Survival Multiplayer. You will always have one with you, and it serves as an effective fallback when all of your ammunition has been exhausted. Primary fire causes a series of interchanging forehand / backhand slashes.
Bat – Value: 10 Weight: 3
The bat boasts somewhat more power than the knife, but because of its size, this comes at the cost of a slightly reduced swing-rate. The bat is hollow and made from aluminum, and is therefore extremely light when compared to the other melee weapons, making it a perfect fallback when you have enough points to replace the knife.
Fire Axe – Value: 12 Weight: 5
The axe is a very powerful tool against single foes, because it can deliver a steady supply of high-damage over-head blows in a small target area. It has enough weight that it may impede the carrying of multiple firearms. Nonetheless, the axe serves as one of the most powerful melee weapons available.
“Hack-handy” Chainsaw – Value: 20 Weight: 8
The chainsaw represents the pinnacle in melee weaponry. In its Primary fire mode, it is thrust forward at an opponent delivering constant damage in a small area directly in front of the player. This can be instrumental in keeping single enemies at bay, or quickly damaging groups as you fall back. The Secondary fire causes a vicious diagonal slash that can cause massive direct damage to a number of foes, in close proximity. Groovy.
Bullpup – Value: 12 Weight: 7
This is part of the default loadout in Survival Multiplayer. The bullpup is a perfect light fire-support weapon, capable of delivering a high density spray of low-caliber rounds at enemies. It has an integrated 2X scope which can be trigger with the secondary fire button.
Dual 9mms – Value: 15 Weight: 4
A pair of deadly, custom 9mm handguns. Boasting a high rate of fire a fairly powerful round, and large magazines, these lightweight weapons are a natural choice in close to medium range combat.
Handcannon – Value: 25 Weight: 4
The handcannon is powerful 50 caliber handgun. It has a small magazine and only a moderate rate of fire, but compensates for this with a quite respectable amount of stopping power, and light weight, making it a very effective late-game sidearm.
Shotgun – Value: 30 Weight: 8
This pump-action shotgun is a powerful choice in close to medium range combat, boasting a massive amount of stopping power, and a moderate rate of fire. The downside of this weapon, (if there is any) is the need to ensure that fresh shells are being manually inserted into the weapon to replenish its small capacity.
Crossbow – Value: 40 Weight: 7
The crossbow serves as one of the few actual “long range” weapons available in Killing Floor. It has a powerful integrated scope which can be accessed using the secondary fire control, and primary fire discharges deadly bolts at your enemies. The crossbow is also unique because it supports a headshot multiplier. That is to say, if you strike an enemy in their head with a crossbow bolt the damage done will be twice what it would otherwise have been.
Winchester – Value: 30 Weight: 7
The winchester has no scope, but it is a skilled sharpshooter’s delight. It has a noticeably faster rate of fire than the crossbow, and although it does slightly less damage, it is still capable of achieving headshots, so careful aim and precision are paramount to users of this weapon.
Hunting Shotgun – Value: 45 Weight: 10
The hunting shotgun is the single most powerful “bullet weapon” you can purchase. It fires two 12- gauge slugs, simultaneously, and can shred most foes to pieces at close range. Because of its power, the kickback users experience will be significant, and the fire rate is somewhat slower than the regular shotgun. That having been said, it surpasses the former in both stopping power, and the fact that there is no need to manually reload shells. Fire until nothing’s standing, or you are dry of shells. Whichever comes first.
NOTE: The pump-action shotgun and hunting shotgun share ammunition.
L.A.W – Value: 60 Weight: 15
The L.A.W (Light Anti Tank Weapon) is arguably the single most destructive weapon available for purchase. It fires armor-disintegrating rockets from a shoulder-mounted berth, and can clear a street of lesser foes with a single well placed shot. Even the mightiest of the creatures you may encounter will not last long under fire from a L.A.W. Keep in mind however, that the knock-back on this weapon is so powerful it can affect your shot.
