The PS3 has the new Blue-Ray disc reader, which is what cuases the price to go up so high. It's a new special type of disc that makes things much cleaner, but, it's not worth the extra four hundred or so that the reader adds to the price. As for the graphics on games and performance, it's surpose to be very fast, and very nice looking. Although, Sony currently is in a rut like always, where they can't produce enough PS3's due to, can anyone guess? The new Blue-Ray Disc readers. So basically. It's just one of those things, you can't really take anyones word on just yet. Only a few couple hundred people have it or whatever, and Sony usually has troubles with the Playstations.

Blu Ray is a tighter beam of laser than normal DVD's. Which means it can store more data. It can store 50gb apparently. The tighter the beam = More production cost = Delays.
Apparently Sony is losing £200 with every ps3 sold. Not a smart move in my honest opinion.

It has to be said microsoft lost a similar amount with the original XBoxes, but that's an unfair comparison TBH. I'd like to steer clear of the BluRay/HDDVD thing, since DVDs do me fine. Infact, I don't see the point of DVD players in consoles, since if I wanted to play DVDs, I'd use a DVD player. Or my PC. The same with the wii interet browser. It feels kinda pointless :/ .
Random fact: Gamecubes outsold the 360 in japan on launch day. WTF?
On a final note... anyone ever actualy seen a real-life blue-ray disk? or even a blue-ray movie for sale? Strikes me this could go the way of the UMD disk.

I threw out my dvd player for my 360. Since it reads all the disks my dvd player read and more, what was the point in keeping it? Just more SCART leads to hook up.
I got my hands on a blu-ray disk. It's quite awesome. The guy said I could scratch it to hell, so I did, with my incredibly sharp claws nails. He put the DVD in and it worked. I believe the movie was X-Men. I didn't watch it, but I saw it worked. Impressive, but still not worth it in my opinion.

Pah. You'll come around eventualy. Besides, you could get a 360, a Wii and a milkshake for the same price as a PS3.
Another random fact: at some point during 2007, nintendo will release a new firmware update allowing the wii to play DVDs. woo. :/

I have a feeling you might need to pay to enable the feature. part of the reason why the PS3 is expensive and the 360 is less is due to the fact it is a fully liscenced player. You buy the liscence for the HD DVD player with the 360 when you buy the item, rather than include it w/ the console. I'm assuming it's the same with the Wii. otherwise, yes I don't see why they delayed it. :/

Well, let´s see what it can do and how much it´ll cost and I might even pay for it. On the other hand I´ve got like ... three dvds ? So, mh .. And a very late reply to the question whether I´ve got a wireless router: No. I´d either have to move stuff around so I can put the cable close to the wall or just be lazy and directly plug it in the router and Wii. But then I´d have cable laying across my room and won´t be able to close the door anymore. Wait, I could plug it in when I need it and plug it out when I don´t need it and pull the cable back in so I can close the door. I am so witty. Now all I need is an additional LAN cable.
