Good luck buying it.
Try Maya, you get it with ut2004, its pretty good.
3ds max 8 is useful, but if you have no idea what to do with it, its not really....

wiki.beyondunreal.comIf you're serious about trying modelling start w/ free/cheap apps until you get the basics. Blender is free, multiplatform. Maya PLE (comes w/ UT2004 ECE ed.) is free. Some ppl still use MilkShape for lowerpoly models. AFAIK it's $10.

well i was looking between mapping and making models and i think that mapping would be a better thing for me i but i just need to find a tutorial that explains everything cause i still don't know how to properly move a player start point or the boxes cause their off the ground and my guy just dies when i start it so if anyone has some pointers for noobs that would be great

i made a small map but when i go to test it my guy just dies i dk wut to do oh and how do u drag and rotate objects? Right click your player start, and hit "align to floor" or "snap to floor" or some thing, or both. It's too far off the ground, causing your player to fall, which kills him. So yeah.

Also make sure your map is between(On the front viewport) the red and blue lines.

Minion, what you're asking is really basic stuff. I know you mentioned looking for tuts but unless you're researching an obsure advanced mapping issue than just about any site that offers tuts should be able to help you with any questions you may have at this stage. Kinda like the one I've posted twice... three times
