Draw me a black one with a drop of blood (instead of dew) on it for a signature?

Abyx: if you state your art is shit, people will always look at it like it is shit. Yes, there are flaws, your shading IS awful not to speak about the hand... but you should be proud of the result, nonetheless and learn from your mistakes. It's true you have to be your harshest critic, but that still means CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I, for one Like to draw N3kkid ladys. This is years old and if I showed you recent pics, you would all be so owned that you will become infurtile from watching your screens. So much do they shine. uBut this owns, nonetheless img72.imageshack.us/img72/5057/scan26sn3.jpg

The first picture was a copy from an anime style drawing. So it's supposed to look stupid. I just really REALLY don't like my art, at all. I just do it because I feel like it most of the time. And I can't shade because no one will teach me and I only have access to mechanical pencils...soooooooooo..yeah. And by the way, great drawing.

mechanical pencils are no excuse for bad shading. Actually, That's the dumbest excuse forbad shading I've ever heard.
For starters, forget all the smudge-shit. It will do you no good. Begin with cross-hatching, I'd suggest using pen for that.

Lol.... well for one, my brother(Whom is the only one I've really asked for advice as he was the best artist I knew at the time. Said to use a normal pencil if I can't get drawing pencils. Sooo..yeah.
I'll try it sometime...wider spaces for lighter and tighter for darker?

pensils are actually a pretty hard tool to master at first, because they can be used in many ways in order to shade. For the beginner, it is more important to have a sense of values... that means, you have to ask yourself, What is the darkest place and what is the lightest place I want to have in my drawing? And, most importantly, how many different values should I use? I'd REALLY suggest to not start with pencils when practicing shading. Pen is absolutely fine, trust me, you can get the basic effects of shading done with them, too. Hatching is an incredibly good technique for shading that can be used on a load of different media (including pencils). The principles are very easy. Draw lines next to each other to simulate planes. The possible variations are the direction of the lines as well as the distance between them (The smaller the distance, the darker the value) Here's an example what I mean: www.gymneufeld.edube.ch/typo3/uploads/pics/Holzschnitt.gifIf you are into pencil-shading though, I suggest to study Wesley Burt, He is an incredible draftsman www.wesleyburt.com/galleryfecal/white.jpg He uses some kind of crosshatching-technique with the pencil.

A detailed art disscission in proof abyx is gey? I don't get what you mean about pens being easy to shade with. They either give total black or nothing. Unless your'e using a biro, and even then the tone range is small. But then again I don't use biros on their own for proper art. I'm more of a multimedia guy. And, acrylic paints suck. especialy lemon lellow.

I didn't say pens are easy to shade with. I'm talking about learning to hatch. Pens are good for that BECUASE you have a small tone range. I just suggest to learn how to use your lines first before diving deeper to it. Too much possibilities distract the learning process. That is why most of the digital artists suck.
